In 2020, the Queensland government rolled out a one-off $200 energy bill credit as part of a $4 billion COVID-19 relief package for businesses, the health system and residents. That scheme has since closed, but it shows the kind of state support that has existed for household power bills in the past.

## What is the $200 energy bill relief?
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Deputy State Premier Jackie Trad announced the funding relief, citing the pressure being applied to families due to COVID-19 and the subsequent job losses. With the cost of living increasing, she told reporters it was important for struggling resident to get some extra assistance.

Safety measures during this crisis mean that many people have lost jobs due to business closures, and on top of that, people are remaining home more often. This means more utilities usage, right at a time when people can afford it least. As such, the $200 utility cash-back is designed to alleviate some of this stress.

## How do I get the $200 relief?
The best thing is, you don’t have to do a single thing. All homeowners and renters in Queensland will automatically have $200 credited to their utility bill in order to offset the cost of water and electricity.
