In recent years, Tesla has been taking giant strides towards creating renewable energy in Australia. From their Powerpacks to Powerwalls, each product created by this manufacturer has been more innovative than the last. However, they have broken the mould with their latest product, the Megapack.
The Megapack is going to change solar power in Australia
The launch of the Megapack in Australia was announced on the Tesla blog on the 29th of July 2019. This new venture evolved from the groundbreaking Tesla project in Hornsbury, South Australia, in 2017. This project created the largest lithium-ion battery built entirely from Tesla Powerpacks. Since its launch, the Hornsbury project has saved over $40million while also balancing the energy grid in the area. The Megapack was created to compound the benefits of this first project.
This product was designed as a battery pack that is suited to large scale projects. In the future, Tesla hopes that their Megapack will replace other forms of energy production, like coal and gas, which are not sustainable. The experts at Tesla believe that their revolutionary new batteries are not only more efficient that conventional means of energy production but they are also more affordable.
How it works
These large scale batteries have a capacity for 3MWh’s and a 1.5MW inverter capacity. These batteries provide a 60% rise in the efficiency of the battery which can be operated with an AC interface. However, the true beauty of these batteries is the convenience it offers to the user.
When a battery is delivered from the manufacturer it will be fully assembled, which means that they can be put into operation with minimal effort. According to the Tesla blog, they will be able to complete an energy plant within three months that spreads across 3acres and produces 250MW of power with a capacity of 1GWh. The Megapack battery is sure to make a significant difference in the manner in which power is generated in Australia.
